Difference Between XMP and DNG Files

XMP (eXtensible Metadata Platform) and DNG (Digital Negative) are both file formats used in photography. XMP files contain editing settings and metadata such as keywords, captions, and copyright information. These files can be used as presets that help you save time when editing photos.

DNG files, on the other hand, are an open-source image format created by Adobe that contains both the image and its metadata and editing settings.

Unlike XMP files, DNG files are not specific to Lightroom and they are designed to be a universal file format that can be used across different platforms and software applications.
